If all the timing marks are correct on the timing gears on the front of the engine and the dimples are matched on the pump drive shaft and the rotor in the pump you should be on the correct cylinder. I don't put much faith in those timing marks being very spot on so I would start there and fine tune it on the dyno if you have access to one, diesel shops have diesel timing lights as well but again each engine likes a little more or less. I've tried static timing my 1948 cub following step by step video (very good and clear) instructions. I CANNOT get the second "click" when I rotate the mag with the coil on top, away from the engine block. Even when I go all the way, it still doesn't give me the second "click" I need to be in time.
WebNov 24, 2024 · I have a 1950 farmall c and it is very slow to turn over. I have had the starter, battery and cables etc. checked are all are OK. I know that timing of the engine can have an effect on how the starter turns over the engine. My problem is that my owners manual shows how to time an engine that has a magneto but mine has a distributor.

I would assume the distributor had a separate positive feed from the switch.
